The flag of Terschelling was adopted some time prior to 1847 where it appeared in a flag chart identifying the island. Flag charts predating that depicted Terschelling and Vlieland sharing this flag.

The symbol at the centre of the flag represents both a stylized Ginkgo leaf and a stylized "T' for Tokyo. The green symbolizes the development, prosperity and peacefulness of Tokyo. Both the flag of Tokyo Prefecture and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government are hoisted outside of the government buildings.
This design, by Rene De Santis, was the winning entry in a 1974 flag design competition held by the City of Toronto. The flag was adopted by the city on 6 November, 1974.
