The flag of Réunion was adopted as the unofficial flag of the island on 1 March, 2003 by a jury presided in Reunion by Michel Lupant. [FOTW]
On 28 Semptember, 2013, then General Councillor of Saint-Louis asked the President of the Regional Council, the General Council and all Mayors of Réunion to use the flag alongside the flag of France, the European Union, and institution flags in an official capacity. To date, the flag remains an unofficial symbol of the region.
