A field of green, on the fly, an orange eagle in flight over three vertical stripes of red, black, and orange (hoist to fly).
The flag of Zambia is unique in having its charges concentrated on the fly. In 1996 the flag was modified to use a lighter shade of green to make the design clear to the observer.
The green represents country's natural resources and vegetation. Red, its struggle for freedom. Black, for its people. Orange represents the country's mineral wealth.
The eagle, an African Fish Eagle, also appears in the national coat of arms. It represents the ability of the people to rise above the problems facing the nation.
