Eight horizontal stripes of pink, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, indigo, and violet (top to bottom).

The first rainbow flag was designed by Gilbert Baker, a San Francisco based artist, in response to a call for the need of a symbol to represent the Gay community.
In the original design the colours represented:
- Hot Pink for sex
- Red for life
- Orange for healing
- Yellow for sun
- Green for serenity with nature
- Turquoise for art
- Indigo for harmony
- Violet for spirit
