About

Following the February Revolution of 1848, King Louis-Philippe was forced to abdicate the throne and fled France for England by Republican revolutionaries. To differentiate themselves from the deposed monarchy, the flag was altered by decree to the blue-red-white tricolour. Presumably, the sentimental attachment to the blue-white-red tricolour by the populace was underestimated prior to the change and the original flag was restored a few days later.
