The flag of Burkina Faso utilizes the Pan-African colours of the Ethiopian flag. The colours distinguish the country from its colonial past while also displaying its unity with other formerly-colonized African countries.
The red is said to symbolize the revolution, the green represents the abundance of agricultural and natural riches. The yellow star is the guiding light of the revolution. The flag was adopted following the coup of 1983 which brought Thomas Sankara to power [Flag Lore Of All Nations ]
